CLEVELAND (WJW) — FOX 8 I-Team has learned that another loaded weapon was found at Hopkins Airport.
It comes after a spike in the number of firearms found last year at Hopkins and at airports across the country.
The Transportation Safety Agency says in this case the loaded weapon was found around 7 a.m. Friday and Cleveland police were called.
By Saturday morning, police had not responded to requests for additional information from the I-Team.
The I-Team previously reported that if someone with a concealed weapons permit is found with a firearm at Hopkins Airport, police seize the weapon but allow the person to continue travelling.
If the person found with a firearm does not have a license, that person is arrested.
Anyone caught bringing a gun into an airport also faces civil fines through the TSA.
TSA agents detected more than 5,900 firearms at airport security checkpoints nationwide in 2021. Eighty-six percent of those guns were loaded.
