Transferring passengers from Schiphol to Eindhoven Airport is not a likely option
Recently, problems forced Schiphol Airport to cancel many scheduled flights. Will this mean additional passengers and additional flights from Eindhoven Airport?
Eindhoven Airport Director Roel Hellemons spoke on the TV show Kraak on Sunday. “Leaving from our airport is not something travelers can expect. Earlier this year we had already forecast full planes during the May holidays and summer period and we have planned accordingly. Consequently, there are not many places available now.
“We may be able to accommodate some flights from Amsterdam in August, he said, but those will be minimal.”
“We are also facing challenges at Eindhoven airport”
Hellemons worked at Schiphol. “Due to Corona, the airport has been at a standstill for almost two years,” he said. “As a result, employees went to look for other jobs, either by force or voluntarily. Now, since everything is back to normal in a short time, it creates problems, not only in Amsterdam but also in other airports”.
The director confessed, “Although we promise passengers that it’s quick and easy to fly with us, honestly, that’s not always the case now.”
“We are doing our best to avoid the Schipol scenario, but we have to work hard for it.”
“We started recruiting staff as soon as Corona restrictions were lifted, in order to best meet passenger demands,” Hellemons said. “To avoid the Schipol scenario, we ask travelers to be at the airport three hours before their flight, so they have no problem catching it.”
Hellemons praises its employees at Eindhoven Airport. “If necessary, employees step away from their desks and don yellow vests to provide information to passengers who may miss their flights as well as to guide them and help them through security as a priority. It’s quite exciting and wonderful.
Recently, the number of Corona infections has increased. This worries Hellemons. “To deal with sick leave, we have to be creative and make things work. Hopefully the effects will be limited, otherwise things will get stuck on our end too.
