TikTok challenge leads to vandalism in Haledon, NJ, school

Amid a nationwide warning regarding the latest TikTok challenge, a New Jersey school said the stunt caused hundreds of dollars in damage.

It’s called “Devious Licks”, and the goal is to vandalize or steal something from a school.

In Haledon, the boys’ bathroom was vandalized in K-8 school with $ 400 in plumbing damage. Superintendent Christopher Wacha told NorthJersey.com he believed it was due to a stunt of “Devious Licks”.

School officials are investigating who did it, but admit it will be difficult to find. They are considering new surveillance measures to ensure this does not happen again.

This latest TikTok trend apparently started when a user posted their flight of disposable masks. However, like many of these so-called challenges, it has escalated.

Dozens of videos have been posted to the website showing middle school, high school and college kids slipping hand sanitizer stations, stealing urinals, smashing floor tiles or even stealing computer equipment.

School districts across the country have warned students not to follow this trend.

TikTok has also decided to crush this latest trend. If you search for ‘sneaky licks’ on their app or website, you get a message urging you to check out their community guidelines.
