Columbia Metro Airport is accepting applications for its Art in the Airport 2022 program.
The initiative, launched in 2020, will showcase the work of four local artists at the airport, giving travelers a glimpse of the landmarks and creativity of the region.
Applications will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. on January 22 and must include at least five images representing the type of artwork to be shown. Artists must live in Aiken, Calhoun, Clarendon, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lexington, Orangeburg, Richland, Saluda, Sumter, Lee or Newberry counties.
This information, along with personal information such as name and address, artist statement and biography, should be emailed to [email protected]
The revolving exhibit will be featured in the terminal connector, the gateway between the security checkpoint and the departure / arrival gates, according to a new release from CAE. The airport will provide labels and signage for each piece, and artists will frame, wire and install their work at their own expense.
Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee and the selected artists will be notified on February 7. A public announcement will be made on February 8.
Artists featured in previous exhibitions include Columbia muralist Ija Charles, Harold Branham, Sonya Diimmler, and Christopher Garvey.
