Tampa International Airport to host “biggest, widest hire day”
TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Hundreds of jobs are ready to be filled at Tampa International Airport.
The airport will host its largest job fair with around 950 positions available.
“We are really trying to increase our services after this historic pandemic,” TPA spokesperson Danny Valentine said.
The airport was fairly empty over a year ago when the pandemic first hit. At one point, the number of passengers fell 97%. Airport officials say travelers have returned to numbers almost pre-pandemic, but their staff are not. This is why the airport is organizing what they call the âbiggest and widest hire dayâ.
Thirty-three companies will be there to fill vacancies in retail and restaurant business and openings for large companies like FedEx and American Airlines. The Hillsborough County Aviation Authority hires about 30 different positions, including maintenance jobs and traffic specialists.
âSome companies will be offering referral bonuses, hiring bonuses, retention bonuses, as well as competitive salaries, and of course the ability to work at Tampa International Airport and have that global impact and represent the Tampa Bay area as a whole, âsaid Valentine. .
If positions aren’t filled, travelers will notice, especially in busier areas like the main lobby. Currently, only 80% of retail stores are operational.
âWe have the vast open majority. Some are closed. Our hours are a bit shorter. The menus are smaller because they have fewer people to offer a full menu. These are all things you might see at the airport, âsaid Valentine.
The hiring day will take place on Wednesday, August 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Event Space (between tracks E and F) on level 3 of the main terminal. Presence in person is required and parking will be validated.
