Several Gatwick Airport flights forced to cancel as 60mph Storm Eunice winds hit

Several flights were forced to cancel trips to and from Gatwick Airport today as winds from Storm Eunice batter Sussex.
So far, two flights have been canceled this morning (February 18) and another 17 cancellations are expected.
Of these 17, eight are arrivals and nine departures.

An airport spokesperson said: “The airport has done well so far this morning, arrivals and departures are still operating.”
However, many planes are currently aborting their landings – most recently a WestJet from Toronto which had to abort its first approach.

Passengers on an easyJet flight to Sussex Airport ended up returning to their original destination after two failed landing attempts.
Travelers heading to the UK from Bordeaux flew straight into the over 60mph winds of Storm Eunice and twice failed to land on the Gatwick runway.

The plane was then put on hold over the South Downs before returning to its starting point in Bordeaux.
Flight passenger Jane Anson took to Twitter and said: ‘Well it was hectic. 6.45am easyJet for Gatwick.
“I tried twice to land, the second time about 10cm above the runway.
“And now back in bdx.”
According to The Express, passengers on easyJet’s Airbus have been told: “We are sorry that your flight has now been diverted to Bordeaux.
“This is due to poor weather conditions at London Gatwick, which are below safe operating limits.”
