Rick Johnson appointed Director of Hagerstown Regional Airport
Rick Johnson will be the new manager of the Hagerstown Regional Airport effective June 14.
Washington County Commissioners formalized the hiring at their Tuesday meeting. The county announced the appointment in a press release Thursday.
He will succeed Garrison Plessinger, who announced his intention to step down in February.
Johnson’s salary will be $ 83,699, according to information prepared for Tuesday’s meeting.
“I am very excited about the opportunity to serve the county as the new airport manager,” Johnson said in the press release. “I look forward to working with a great team within the department as we focus on developing the airport as an airport for the region.”
Johnson has been the Manager of Frederick Municipal Airport since 2013. He has worked for the City of Frederick for over 21 years in various project management roles.
As the manager of Frederick Airport, he oversaw the $ 2 million operating budget and the $ 28 million airport capital improvement program and day-to-day operations of Maryland’s second busiest airport, with an average of more than 94,000 annual flight operations, according to the statement.
Johnson also has 32 years of military service, including two overseas deployments to Afghanistan and one recently to Iraq.
He serves in the US Air Force Reserves as the Air Cargo Flight Leader for 69th Airport Squadron at Joint Base Andrews and has the rank of Senior Master Sergeant.
In addition, he is recognized as a certified member of the American Association of Airport Executives and is a student pilot.
“Rick Johnson’s wealth of knowledge and experience in airport management and his many years of military service bring great value to the Hagerstown Regional Airport,” Washington County Administrator John Martirano said in the press release. “I welcome Mr. Johnson to Washington County, and I am delighted to see what he will bring to the continued growth and development of HGR. “
As the manager of the Hagerstown Regional Airport, Johnson will be responsible for ensuring that the airport complies with federal and state regulations. He will also work with local jurisdictions to further develop the airport and to meet future growth and needs.
