Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) is constructing a VVIP terminal at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali to facilitate access for G20 Summit guests.

The ministry continues to spearhead infrastructure development in Bali to support Indonesia’s preparation for the G20 summit in November 2022, PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono noted in a statement on Sunday.

The G20 is an international forum whose members include 19 countries and the European Union. They work together to handle major issues. Indonesia holds the presidency of the grouping this year.

The G20 summit is a meeting attended by all G20 member countries or heads of government.

Construction of the I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport VVIP is being conducted over an area owned by the public airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I.

The project, which would cost 51 billion rupees, has been carried out since March 14, 2022 and will be completed by the end of August 2022. The physical progress of the project currently stands at 21.94%.

The VVIP terminal is being built by the state-owned construction company PT Wijaya Karya while the state-owned company PT Virama Karya is acting as the supervising consultant.

The scope of works includes the construction of the VVIP building, the guard house building, the underground water tank, the pump room, the fence and gate, landscaping, the laydown area and of the laydown area, as well as the relocation of the mechanical electrical plumbing (MEP) facility.

Boby Ali Azhari, head of the ministry, noted that the VVIP terminal at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport will become the new face of Bali and the G20 Presidency.

“It is because it is the first destination that the heads of the member countries of the G20 summit visit,” he explained.

“I expect that the coordination between the institutions can be maintained well for the smoothness and precision of the operation,” he remarked.

Apart from constructing a new VVIP terminal, the ministry will also revitalize the existing VIP terminal and its ancillary buildings.

Beyond that, the construction of an air cargo shipping building (EMPU) will also be carried out to support the G20 summit.
