Jeff Zide / News LawyerMANISTEE – Jermaine Sullivan was elected deputy mayor at the Manistee city council organizing meeting on Tuesday.
Organizational council meetings are held after an annual municipal election, and a mayor and deputy mayor are chosen for a one-year term.
Lynda Beaton was again chosen as mayor. Beaton became mayor of Manistee earlier in the year after Roger Zielinksi announced his resignation from council in July.
Beaton, James Grabowski and Sullivan were all re-elected to their council positions on November 2, running unopposed in their districts. They represent all the even districts, Beaton representing the 2nd arrondissement, Sullivan representing the 4th arrondissement and Grabowski representing the 6th arrondissement of Manistee. All three members were also sworn in on Tuesday by City Clerk Heather Pefley.
Grabowski appointed Beaton mayor and Sullivan deputy mayor. No other candidacy has been announced for either position. The nominations were each approved unanimously.
