Lufthansa and Amadeus to reduce airport queues thanks to health agreement

Mobile check-in has become one of the unexpected victims of Covid due to the need to manually verify health documents, but a new reconciliation between Amadeus and Lufthansa is expected to allow travelers to have a faster and smoother trip to as business travel picks up.
Both companies announced the implementation of Traveler ID for Safe Travel, which allows passengers to verify their health documents directly through the airline’s app, including the European Union’s Covid Digital Certificate (DCC). .
The system allows the airline to automatically issue a boarding pass without further physical control, which saves time at the airport. Passengers can now use the system on all 2,000 weekly Lufthansa flights departing from Schengen areas without risk.
Amadeus Executive Vice President for Global Ecosystem Initiatives Monika Wiederhold said
BTN Europe, “We were able to see at the start of the pandemic all the regulations and complexities of these new processes. It broke automation and creates queues and waiting times. Traveler ID for Safe Travel is really about making the process more efficient and saving travelers hours in the check-in lines.
The system checks the requirements of a particular trip with the country’s regulations before asking passengers to provide the necessary health documents.
“The EU’s DCC is currently one of the global standards and that was the key for us,” said Wiederhold. “Other countries outside the EU are starting to follow this standard. Yet there is no single global standard, which means it is important to integrate with other health aggregators; we have integrated with IBM Health Pass and we work closely with IATA Travel Pass and others.
“We started this initiative in a very open and collaborative way, to connect as many solutions as possible. It’s an important part of the solution, ”she said.
The system is also fully integrated with Centogene, Lufthansa’s partner for medical testing services in Germany. This means that travelers who book their PCR or antigen testing through the company can also scan a QR code when checking in through the airline’s app, and the documentation will be automatically processed through Amadeus’ connection with Centogene.
Wiederhold said the Traveler ID for Safe Travel system is now operational with ten airlines, including Lufthansa, Air Canada and Norwegian Air Shuttle, and the company is expected to pass the one million validations milestone today. Other airlines are in preparation for the end of the year.
