Joan Mahas Norman died on September 30, 2021 in Ogden, Utah. She went to Heaven because of the incidence of age. She was born March 4, 1934 in Ogden, Utah.
Joan’s parents were James Virgil and Anna Alberts Hicks. Joan was married to and predeceased by Jimmy G. Mahas. Jim and Joan were both part of the Weber County Sheriff’s Horse Troop.
Joan married Tom Norman on January 12, 1979, “The 12th of Never” in Joan’s words …
Joan attended Ogden High School and graduated in 1952. She grew up in Ogden and then lived in Sunset, Harrisville, Ogden and spent her summers in Valhalla.
She was a decorated employee of Amalgamated Sugar, then Westcom. She obtained her pilot’s license at Ogden Hinckley Airport. Joan really enjoyed her daily trips to Deseret Industries where she had many longtime friends. Her hobbies included but not limited to stained glass working, painting, quilting, collecting antiques, pointillism, rags and she did not let moss grow under her feet.
Joan is survived by her husband, Tom Norman; and his amazing children, Jimmy G. Mahas (Lori), Becky Mahas, Robert G. Mahas (Tona), Roger Norman and Stuart Norman and his stepdaughter, Kathy Mahas. She was predeceased by her eldest son, Steve Mahas, and granddaughter, Lindsey Mahas. She is also survived by her brother, Jim Hicks and sister, Sharon Austin. She has 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and a great great grandchild.
A funeral service will be held on Friday October 8, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd. Services under the Ogden Mortuary of Lindquist.
