Williamsport Regional Airport could see improvements of $ 11.1 million over the next two years.
Airport executive director Richard Howell presented the projects, most of which would be funded by federal CARES funds, to members of the airport’s municipal administration at their recent meeting.
Projects include sewer upgrades, tower rehabilitation, repaving of taxi lanes, roofing needs, and runway upgrades.
By far the biggest cost item is a new maintenance building at a cost of $ 6 million.
Howell said this particular project may depend on the airport resuming commercial flights.
The airport lost service with American Airlines, its only commercial supplier, at the end of September.
“We are looking for good projects to improve the airport and the experience of our customers,” he said to the Sun-Gazette.
Howell noted that some projects such as the removal of trees west of the airport, which created obstacles for planes, are either completed or underway.
He said he hoped to start other projects next year.
In other areas, the Authority approved payments of $ 180,900 to Bronder Engineering Services for the replacement of the taxiway lighting and of $ 395,276 to HRI Inc. for the fuel farm project.
Howell noted that these projects are expected to be completed soon.
The Authority met in an executive session after the meeting to examine real estate matters.
