Beginning of renovations at Easterwood Airport | Local News
Eagle Staff Report
Renovations worth $ 5.9 million are expected to begin soon at Easterwood Airport.
The projects will include the realignment of one of the airport’s main taxiways to accommodate large aircraft and provide more parking for aircraft. Currently, the taxiway is too close to an airport parking area for jumbo jets to use.
Easterwood Airport saw passenger numbers increase 184% from 2020, leading to more daily commercial flights than in 2019. Bryan-College Station population increased 12% since 2016.
“Bryan-College Station is a growing community with endless potential on the horizon. The Easterwood Airport project will restructure operations to allow for more and better commercial air service with substantial economic benefits, ”US Representative Pete Sessions said in a statement. “Our dynamic community deserves to have an airport that matches the quality of its inhabitants and its ability to adapt to rapid changes in the region. I look forward to seeing the lives of Central Texans improve as a result of this effort.
The project will begin in January and will be funded by a grant from the Federal Aviation Administration. The grant is part of $ 766 million the FAA recently provided to airports across the country to make them safer, more accessible and more sustainable.
Easterwood Airport is part of the Texas A&M University System.
