‘Australia’s Best Airport Terminal’ Begins Construction | Fairfield City Champion

Western Sydney Airport General Manager Simon Hickey said they aimed to make “anxious waiting” around the baggage carousel a thing of the past.
âOur baggage system will give passengers the ability to track their baggage through an app so they know exactly when it’s arriving,â he said.
“We have a unique opportunity to build an airport from scratch taking into account not only emerging technologies, such as air taxis, but also technologies that have not yet been imagined.”
Construction of the passenger terminal at Western Sydney International Airport (Nancy-Bird Walton) has officially started, which pays homage to the rich Aboriginal heritage of western Sydney.
The construction of the terminal alone is expected to create more than 1,400 direct jobs and many more indirect jobs.
âThis will be Australia’s best airport terminal, with cutting-edge technology, innovative design and excellent customer service combined to set a new benchmark for what Australians expect when they fly,â said Hickey .
âAt Western Sydney International, we’ll make sure passengers leave earlier, whether it’s arriving on time for your appointment or arriving home with your loved ones.
“This project will be a game-changer for residents of West Sydney who want to work closer to home and have more time to spend with their families, not only during the construction phase but for many decades to come.”
The terminal will include specialty retail stores, restaurants and cafes, as well as an outdoor plaza that can accommodate events such as local food festivals, markets and community celebrations.
The terminal is designed to provide natural light and reduce carbon emissions, and the roof will generate solar electricity and collect rainwater. Sustainable and recycled materials will be used throughout the terminal, including structure, finishes and furnishings.
The plaza terminal will have a station on the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport line and will be connected to the Sydney motorway network via the new toll-free M12 motorway.
- Western Sydney International is set to open up to international, domestic and air freight services at the end of 2026.
