Air New Zealand employees get shares for toughest year
Ahead of other airlines, Air New Zealand employees have received actions for their efforts during one of the most difficult years the airline has seen.
All permanent employees will receive $ 1,000 in shares.
As the airline faces another difficult year, Air New Zealand chief executive Greg Foran said it was more important than ever to ensure Air New Zealand staff are recognized for the work it has done – and will continue to do – as the airline recovers.
“This is the right thing to do given the mahi and the sacrifices Air New Zealanders have made to get the airline to go through Survive and enter its recovery phase,” said Foran.
“And by assigning actions to our employees, we want them to have the chance to benefit from the future success that we will really need their help for.
“I am immensely proud of the way our people have responded to the COVID-19 crisis. They rise to the occasion, working hard to keep New Zealand connected and the Kiwis safe.
“Some pilots and crew have spent more than 100 days in isolation to help reunite thousands of overseas Kiwis with their loved ones. Our freight team has helped transport 100,000 tonnes of New Zealand products around the world. Day in and day out, our employees have done and continue to do all they can under difficult and changing conditions to keep our customers safe. “
Approximately 8,000 employees will be eligible for the share allocation, which will take place during the last quarter of this calendar year. This will be available to New Zealand and Australian employees, and as a cash equivalent for those in other global locations.
And in another bonus after 15 months of reduced wages, the airline will end employee pay cuts from July 1.
“These steps are possible because we are on a more stable financial footing given our strong domestic operations and revenue growth from Tasman and the Cook Islands.
“While a full recovery is still some time away, the changes announced today recognize that we cannot achieve this without an exceptional and continued contribution from our dedicated team at Air New Zealand.
“We thank our employees for the sacrifices made over the past 15 months and for their continued commitment to our customers over the coming year”
Mr. Foran said.
