Specialized recruitment firm Michael page has released its latest salary guide, showing what skilled professionals in South Africa can expect to earn in 2022.

Although South Africa has one of the highest unemployment rates in the world, the Michael Page Group said it saw a sharp increase in recruiting assignments in 2021 compared to the previous year.

This was particularly noticeable for mid-to-senior level positions during the first quarter of the year, and this pace continued throughout the year.

“This would indicate that companies need strong leadership and qualified candidates with considerable experience to relaunch their businesses in these difficult and uncertain times,” said Paul Newman, COO of PageGroup South Africa.

“Almost all industries and sectors have shown a positive trend in terms of hiring activity, however, the health and technology sectors have been the most active and we expect this to continue in the medium term.” he said, adding that hiring in engineering, manufacturing and mining has also shown momentum.

This did not come about without significant changes, however, with Newman highlighting the sentiment of job seekers in South Africa seeking to accomplish their tasks or responsibilities remotely, stressing the need to accelerate technological capabilities.

“What started as a forced work-from-home policy for some businesses has now grown into a long-term strategy for most businesses, accelerating digital transformation and technology adoption in almost every industry,” said he declared.

“As organizations realize that working from home can be productive and is a real solution, we have noticed a sharp increase in the number of global organizations seeking rare talent to be based anywhere in the world, this is particularly true in the technology sector where there is a real skills shortage in South Africa.

Better income

The main employees – according to data from Michael Page – are group / regional CFOs of financial companies who can expect to earn up to R5 million per year, with an average salary of R4 million per year. .

By comparison, CFOs of these companies can expect to earn up to R3.5 million per year, with an average of R3 million.

Other well-paying positions can be found in the supply chain, where a vice president can earn up to R 3.8 million per year, as well as sales and marketing jobs, where the top salaries are paid. can reach 2.8 million rand.

It is important to note that while the salary data is very comprehensive, it is mainly focused on professionals.

This means that some sectors such as airline pilots, engineers, medical staff and government officials are not included in the report.
